Dangers in Thailand: how can tourists avoid unpleasant situations? Security in Thailand. A guide between rakes in the kingdom of smiles What to fear in Thailand

Do you know that people sometimes die from falling coconuts on their heads from this beauty?

Is life and rest in Thailand so dangerous, as some people think, asking me about what is listed here in paragraph one. And what is really dangerous in Thailand?

Suddenly, someone else does not know that bronchitis can be caught from the air conditioner, that jellyfish are poisonous and the mortality from them is greater than from dengue fever. Or, for example, that guys from all sorts of dubious countries often get acquainted with white girls in Asia, playing true love, so that they transport drugs to them, without suspecting anything about it ..

snakes in asia

In general, for me this is the number one terrible topic, and I still can’t say for sure that you shouldn’t be afraid of snakes in Asia. It’s definitely worth staying away from them: look under your feet when we walk through all sorts of bushes and abandoned places, shine a flashlight under your feet in the dark ... But you definitely don’t need to be afraid of them. In the five years of my life in Asia, I have never been hurt or even attacked by snakes (like my friends), although I constantly climb all sorts of deserted places and jungles. Once I met a snake nose to nose in the jungle and one day the snake crawled into the house where I lived. It turned out that everything is not as scary as it seemed ... The main things you should know about snakes in Asia:

  • The snake does not attack first, but bites in self-defense, so you just do not need to attack or step on it. If she crawled into the house, you just need to open the door and give her time to leave (the poor thing herself probably freaks out from where she got).
  • As a rule, venomous snakes have narrow and vertical pupils, while non-venomous snakes have round ones. But there are insidious exceptions: the poisonous black mamba, cobra, coral snake have round pupils.
  • Venomous snakes often have very bright colors. Again, there are exceptions to this rule. Therefore, it is better to think about all snakes that they poisonous and stay away from them.

Are scorpions dangerous?

I have seen scorpions a couple of times. Basically, they harmlessly cross the road or go about their business somewhere in the bushes. To get stung by a scorpion, I think you need to try very hard.

A scorpion sting is painful, but harmless to most people. Although officially possible symptoms after a bite (each body tolerates this in its own way): swelling, weakness, dizziness, convulsions, tachycardia. In general, after a bite, just in case, it is better to consult a doctor. In some rare cases, a scorpion sting can be fatal, especially in children and the elderly.

Mosquitoes and Dengue Fever

For some reason, almost everyone who travels here is very afraid of dengue. It's like being afraid of the flu when returning to Russia - you can, of course, but is it worth it? There are a lot of mosquitoes in Asia (except for Singapore, where they were purposefully eradicated), but repellents and sprays help against them, which are also plentiful here. There are mosquitoes that carry dengue fever, and you can get sick at any time, even on a short vacation in Thailand or Asian countries. But statistically this is very unlikely. In addition, for white tourists, in the vast majority of cases, it is not as scary as for Thais and is comparable to the flu. I have written in detail about Dengue

Tsunami in Thailand and Asia

Tsunamis in Thailand and Asian countries are possible, but not everywhere. In Thailand, dangerous places are: Khao Lak, Phuket, in general, the coast of the Andaman Sea. Now in Phuket they take this very seriously and sometimes there are alerts, after which all people gather together and go up the mountain to a place safe from the tsunami. But so far, all these worries, fortunately, turn out to be false.

In other Asian countries, the tsunami may affect some coasts of Indonesia (Bali), the Philippines…

Not all coasts or places in the country are dangerous for tsunamis, I sometimes google if there are dangerous places in the country where I am going to know in advance.

Tsunami is not possible on the shores of the Gulf of Thailand (Koh Samui, Pattaya, Koh Chang, Hua Hin, etc.).

Map of countries affected by the 2004 tsunami (you can click and see in a larger size):

floods

I experienced severe floods in Asia twice: on Koh Samui and in Bangkok. But it turns out that much more panic always occurs outside of the flood: in the media of other countries.

Even if floods happen in Asia, it is certainly not tourists who come to rest who suffer in the first place, but their cameras, but local residents living on the outskirts or in unfavorable areas.

You can read more about the flood on Koh Samui in my blog here: Or take a look at the funny photo essay by Alexander Safronov

Is it dangerous on the streets and at night

Almost all of Southeast Asia (Thailand, Nepal) is safer for recreation and life than Russia. But there are a few important points:

  • They like to snatch bags from tourists in Vietnam, Bali and in highly touristic places in Thailand (including while riding a bike).
  • The more touristy (and depraved) a place is, the more likely it is to be robbed.
  • In general, Thailand is more relaxed than in Vietnam, Bali and Russia.
  • In general, in the dark back streets of all of Southeast Asia, it is more calm than on the dark streets of Russian cities.

Revolutions, strikes in Thailand and Asia

I'm not a monster, I'm an ordinary blonde. She lived and walked with her camera right in the middle of the centers of revolutions and strikes in Thailand and Nepal. I can say for sure that in most cases revolutions are not dangerous for tourists - this is definitely not something to be afraid of in Southeast Asia. It doesn't concern us at all. By the way, in my blog you can see photo reports about and

However, there are countries (for example, Syria and others) where it is definitely better not to go on vacation, and this is written about on the Internet.

Terrorism, explosions in Thailand and Asia

Why terrorism is something not to be feared:

  • Fear and panic is what terrorists expect from us. For the sake of which terrorist acts are made. If there were no such reaction, then terrorism itself would lose all meaning.
  • It is less likely to die in a terrorist act than to die in a plane crash. That is, the probability extremely negligible.
  • In Asian countries, such things do not happen so often and the mortality from them is much lower than in other places.

Little known but real dangers in Thailand and Asia

Scary big cockroaches in Asia and how to get rid of them

Let you laugh at me now, but this is what I fear most in Asia. More than terrorists and tsunami floods combined. cockroaches here huge. And they fly! And small ones (our Soviet ones) also fly .. It's really terrible. And they may well sit in the bathroom when you want to go there. If this happens, you can cover the water drains in the floor with something (usually they are in the shower and near the toilet) - in 99% this works.

Coconut trees and coconuts falling on our heads

These wonderful coconuts actually sometimes fall on the heads of unsuspecting passers-by. Perhaps my data is not the most accurate, but about 150 people die every year from falling coconuts on their heads (in the world). This is even more than from the fall of icicles on the head (the inhabitants of St. Petersburg will understand). Therefore, sometimes it is worth looking at them not only to admire.

Scolopendra in Asia

centipede sometimes crawl into houses. They bite and they are venomous - mostly not fatal, but very annoying. I saw them several times in Thailand on the streets (near houses) and many times in the photo of those to whom they crawled into the house. At first glance, centipedes are very slow and can only bite if they accidentally crawl onto a person or if you take such a cuttlefish in your hands and make it clear that you are a threat to it. And in such cases, it turns out that they run pretty fast. Centipedes bite through human skin and secrete poison, causing pain, burning, erythema, edema and lymphangitis. Dizziness, nausea, anxiety are possible. Extremely rarely, with the bites of some species of large tropical centipedes, death is possible.

Poison jellyfish (and frogs) in Asia

Jellyfish are small and completely invisible, you can only feel that something has burned you in the sea while swimming. But there are Big Jellyfish. And they can be deadly - if one of these stings you in the sea far from the coast, then you may not swim back.

Well, if you see a large jellyfish near the shore or on the shore, then it’s still better not to get close to it, because jellyfish are poisonous, poison affects the work of the heart, burns heal for a very long time.

☝ Jellyfish are most often found during rains, in the dark or in muddy waters. But even while swimming on a sunny day, you should not swim very far and generally watch where you are swimming.

If you or someone nearby is stung by a large jellyfish, you need to urgently call for medical help and be ready to perform artificial respiration just in case. You can wash the wound with salt water (but by no means fresh!) Or even treat with shaving foam if one is at hand.

To make it even scarier, you can watch this video - a news story in Thai, but everything is clear without words. The accident occurred on Koh Samui, Lamai Beach, a two-year-old baby and mother suffered from a jellyfish - the baby had a cardiac arrest from pain shock. The video shows how the rescuers pump out the baby - it's scary and it's a miracle that everything ended like this, because not all beaches in Thailand have lifeguards.

A few words about frogs- wild frogs in Asia are sometimes served in restaurants. I heard that there are isolated cases of poisoning by these frogs (several people a year). Death occurs within 30 minutes).

Sea: a current that can carry

Every surfer knows this. In some places near the coasts there are currents that can very easily carry a person into the sea. More such places are still on the high seas (not in bays, although they are also possible). If we see a place with large waves from the shore, and on the sides of it the waves are not too high, then just these gentle places will be dangerous for swimmers. There are many such places in Indonesia, in Thailand they are in Phuket or in Lamai and Chaweng on Koh Samui. In fact, a very dangerous thing, there are quite a few accidents.

If you start to be pulled into the sea, you need to quickly row not towards the shore, but to the side, towards the big waves that will help you swim ashore.

Sun: heat stroke or skin cancer

Also a serious problem. All good things should be in moderation. There are cases when a person drowns from sunstroke, swimming far into the sea, and skin cancer can develop from a fierce habit of sunbathing - a problem that some foreigners living here face.

Air conditioners in Thailand

This is not such a terrible thing, of course, and most often air conditioners are our saviors from the wild heat. But if you overdo it (or a weak body), then you can overshadow your vacation in Thailand by catching a serious cold or even bronchitis. You just need to be more careful with them (for example, have a warm scarf with you everywhere). The most severe air conditioners in Asia are in most supermarkets (especially in Bangkok), taxis and intercity buses.

Being drunk while driving in Asia

Most of the worst accidents happen to drunk drivers. Suffer and die in them not only drivers, but also others. Be careful.

→Selling drugs. Prison in Asia

This item should be number one. You have no idea how easily this can happen to anyone. It seems very stupid and obvious, but it happens all the time and still, despite the huge number of creepy examples.

Only sometimes, under the article for the distribution of drugs, they really get "for the cause", when a person knew what he signed up for and carried drugs for sale himself. But often there are such muddy and obvious schemes as:

  • Girl meets boyfriend through the Internet, true love begins, a life together in South America or somewhere else in Asia. After some time, the girl flies with a suitcase presented from her boyfriend (or consciously fulfills a request to transfer a suitcase with things to another country). After landing, the girl is asked to “go” to a special room, they arrange an inspection and find so many kg of drugs (powder, liquid) in the suitcase.
  • A good friend asks to fly instead of yourself to South America (possibly other Asian countries) and bring some medicines or a semi-legal semi-drug (powder of South American cacti, etc.). They buy expensive tickets for him, provide him with a trip to an exotic country. The traveler is underway, but upon arrival with a load, he ends up in a prison in some Asian country, where a life sentence is provided for such a friendly service.

While I was living in Asia, foreign guys often knocked on my door with the intention of getting to know each other (and even Vkontakte, where they should not be in principle). Usually I ignore everyone and just throw them into subscribers or a ban. The need to ignore seems obvious to me, but life shows that not everyone else.

Every year tourists in Thailand have the same problems! They get into the same troubles in the same places, and then shout guard on the forums. The long-livers answer: “What were you waiting for? It's always like that there"

For some reason, our tourists have the opinion that Thailand is a very safe country. My first housemate generally assured that here you can throw a running bike on the street, and do not close the door from the house. I partly agree with him, because Thailand is much safer than Russia. Seriously, at 4 am in Pattaya on a dark street, I feel calmer than during the day in St. Petersburg Kupchino.

But nevertheless, every 2 weeks in the most popular VKontakte group about Pattaya, a post “Attention! I was robbed” and describe the same scheme, in the same place. And this post immediately has a bunch of identical comments: “Yes, it has already been discussed a hundred times”, “Oh, well, you need to know such things”, “I also had a case there ...”, etc.

Therefore, I will share with you those divorces that are practiced in Thailand and Pattaya, as well as those places that are best avoided.

The most dangerous place in Pattaya - Ambassador hotel pattaya

Ambassador is one of the largest and most popular hotel among Russians in Pattaya. The hotel has its own huge territory, at the exit there are a large number of inexpensive cafes and souvenir shops, and opposite is the large entertainment quarter of Mimosa. Everything would be fine, but it's all located on a busy highway. The scariest thing there is a pedestrian crossing over the highway! Every week a man is run over to death at this crossing. I am not kidding! This passage is a branch of the devil. Imagine that in Moscow a zebra crossing would be allowed through the Moscow Ring Road, but without traffic lights and generally no identification marks. I hated this crossing every time we rode this track. Here you are driving calmly for 100 km in a dense stream, and then the entire stream abruptly begins to slow down, as in an accident: and this is pedestrians ahead without warning.

I ask you: Walk 200 meters - there is an overpass! The pedestrian crossing near Ambmassador is the most dangerous place in Pattaya.

Photo of the crossing from Google maps, you can see the overpass in the distance. The traffic light never works!

Batman's house

There is one creepy, but very interesting place in Pattaya. Names Batman's house. It used to be the most trashy club in Pattaya. It was opened by a Taiwanese with gold teeth using money stolen from the mafia. And according to rumors, there was a complete ata-tai! The debauchery of minors and the sale of drugs is the very tip of the iceberg. In the end, it turned out to be too much even for Pattaya, and after 10 months the club was closed, and the owner disappeared.

Now illegal migrants, drug addicts and prostitutes live in the club. Although the house has a very interesting view - it is not recommended to enter it, it is best to just drive past on a bike.

Robbery - Thieves on motorbikes

All Asians are excellent motorbike riders, and they openly start riding the streets at the age of 14, and the words “rules”, “logic”, “safety” are not about them at all. A lot of these youngsters trade in theft. Those. during a walk, a motorbike with two youngsters is attached behind you and at a certain moment they drive up very close - one grabs a bag, and the second vomits in the gases. This situation is very dangerous in a tuk-tuk, when it stops at a traffic light, and thieves drive up from behind and tear the chain. If the chain is strong, it can severely damage the neck.

Most often, this situation occurs with tourists, because. they carry large sums of money with them. Losing money in this case is just a frustration, but many carry passports in their purses, which is a big mistake.

Assaults - Bastards on motorbikes

As I already wrote in a post about ““, now a generation of children who were born from whores has grown up in Pattaya. I'm sorry, but there's no other way to say it. Because these are gangs of juvenile bastards without morality and fear, but with a desire to take other people's money.

These are not cowardly thieves who snatch the bag and leave, these are real bandits. They also track down their prey, but if the bag cannot be pulled out, they do not run away, but stop and attack. Sometimes with a knife, sometimes stones are thrown at the head. But more often they throw the victim off the motorbike (when the victim is driving), i.e. they simply catch up and knock down the bike with a kick, and while the victim comes to his senses, they search his pockets.

Teenagers of 14-18 years old are also doing this, they are still afraid to attack men or couples. But attacks on single women behind the wheel of a bike occur once a month.

Theft

There is a lot of stealing in Thailand! They steal bikes, in hotels, things on the beach, rob apartments and houses! Every year similar topics appear on the forums! In Pattaya, helmets are most often stolen from shopping malls, when the owners simply leave them on the seat and do not fasten them, and bikes are stolen there (It takes no more than 40 seconds to steal any bike). The same goes for houses in Thai villages - they are regularly cleaned up, even with cameras and security, because. most of the time the cameras don't work, and there is an unguarded loophole into the village.

Choose condos with card access and houses in well-guarded villages. Otherwise, keep your money in a safe and your jewelry in safe deposit boxes. By the way, in, this will help when stealing a motorbike and stealing a handbag, just throw it inside and install an application for yourself that can track the loss. The Thais do not yet know what it is, so the chance to return things is 99%.

Deception - Jet skiing

One of the most popular beach scams in Pattaya. So popular that the owners of jet skis have become known as the mafia. How it all happens: You rent a jet ski, and then either when you hand it over, a big scratch is found on the bottom, or during the ride, the wires come off and the motorcycle stalls. The seller starts demanding money - from 1,000 to 5,000 baht, and if you do not immediately go into your wallet, then more and more locals appear from somewhere. About 10 locals instantly accumulate around you, yelling, shaking their fists, threatening the police, and you are standing on vacation, your wife and child are resting nearby and you don’t want all these problems at all. Therefore, tourists almost always pay a “ransom”. If you go to the island of Koh Lan, then there 90% that you will be divorced like that, because. there are no police on the beaches and no one will really help you.

There are cases when people still drag bike owners to the police, but the outcome is not clear there and it depends very much on the policeman. They can make you pay, or they can send the owner of the motorbike. Remember that no matter how menacingly the owners of scooters wave their fists, they will not attack you (the main thing is not to be rude to them), because the police know everything about their divorces and if they touch a tourist, their shop will instantly close. Therefore, option 3: go to the police and hope for good luck, either pay these extortionists, or politely send everyone and go home (they will not be left behind until the ship to Pattaya).

And the best thing in Pattaya is not to take a jet ski at all!

Deception with bank cards (an interesting case)

Scrimming, or theft of bank card data, is almost like a national pastime in Thailand. street cameras are not yet developed here, and the IT police work very poorly, so scammers from all over the world come here. The cases of theft are completely different, the most unusual ones I have seen are: A thief gets on a night bus, who is watching foreigners, their target is tourists who have just arrived and are traveling full of money. When the tourist falls asleep, the thief pulls out cards and cash from his bag, asks him to stop the bus and changes into a prepared car (She either follows him from Bangkok itself, or waits in an agreed place), then the car vomits into the nearest electronics store and devastates overnight cards, the tourist discovers the loss only in the morning, or on the night track, where he can do nothing.

Deception - Rent a motorbike on a beach.

I heard about such a divorce most often on the beach (beach street in Pattaya), where many drunk tourists take bikes for a ride. There are several places where they rent very cool sports bikes or Harleys. The deposit is just a passport. Divorce, as with a jet ski, you are either shown a large scratch, somewhere under the bottom, or this scratch is slightly embellished and the paint will immediately fall off when driving. In general, do not take a bike on Beach! Better google who Aunty Thom is (not to be confused with "Russian Thai Tom"). Aunt Tiem is a very kind and good Thai girl who never cheats and is engaged in renting motorbikes in Pattaya.

Cathoy attacks

Katoys in Thailand are called transvestites. Those. boys who became girls. For many, Katoi is still exotic, and unpleasant. The next time you decide to tease a trans, then remember that this is primarily a man who sits on hormonal pills, who is insulted during the day, and at night they do things that no healthy person can stand. Therefore, katoi very often attack tourists. These are robberies and banal fights.

In general, all long-lived people are advised to stay away from katoys. It never ends well.

Fraud - Changing money in a taxi

The bottom line is that when disembarking you, the taxi driver stops very unsuccessfully, most often at some busy intersection, or right in front of a traffic light, in general, so that they start signaling to him, and you are in a hurry. You give the taxi driver the money, turn away to the exit, but they don’t let you go out - the taxi driver shows the money in his hand, and there is not enough 100 or 200 baht. And recently, a smiling taxi driver with the same smile and bewilderment asks you to pay the bill, dissatisfied beeps from behind and you are completely at a loss. Most often, people think that they really mixed up the new money, but in fact the taxi driver changed them.
Shake your finger at the taxi driver, say “Ai-yay-yay” and get out. The taxi driver knows that he deceived and no one will chase you

Deception - Attraction closed

It is found everywhere in Asia! If you take a taxi to some attraction, the taxi driver will tell you that it is closed, but for a small fee, he will take you to awesome places that are usually not shown to tourists.

I constantly fall. We smile and tell the taxi driver that you will go to see anyway =)

Deception - Selling drugs

For the sale of drugs in Thailand, the death penalty! But for many years, a boy has been walking on the beach street in Pattaya, who, with an unambiguous gesture, offers to buy “nonsense” from him. From time to time, some unafraid idiot buys from him, then the kid moves into the shadows, takes out his phone and calls the police, to whom he betrays this idiot for a fee. If you decide to buy drugs anywhere in Thailand, then you are 99% likely to be handed over to the police.

Welcome to the land of smiles

Despite all this, Thailand remains the same friendly and smiling! described above is in any other country in the world, and I wrote this so that you are more accurate! After the Russian tension, ours are too relaxed in Thailand and become victims of scammers! Be kind to people, but know where they want to deceive you!

Have a good rest 😉

Throughout the world, Thailand is synonymous with serene relaxation. The warm sea, palm trees, exotic cuisine, a sea of fruits and, of course, hospitable Thais annually attract hundreds of thousands of tourists to the country. But is a holiday in Thailand as safe as it is pleasant?

Due to the heat and high humidity, food in the tropics spoils quickly. If you add food that is unusual for the stomach and dirty hands, then the risk is great. However, do not be afraid. By following some simple rules, this trouble can be easily avoided.

  1. Pay close attention to hand hygiene.
  2. Before buying in stores, check the expiration dates of products.
  3. It is better to exclude dairy products from the diet.
  4. In any cafe, the phrase "no spicy" will partially protect against malaise. Often it is not associated with the quality of food, but with the unpreparedness of the stomach for spicy food.

Attention! Under no circumstances should you drink tap water. Be careful with drinks with ice, it is also sometimes made from such water. Poor quality water is the main cause of poisoning in Thailand.

Important! No need to be afraid of local street food. Poisoning is extremely rare. It is necessary to assess the condition of the workplace and the preparation process. But the food in these mobile kitchens is “the most Thai”.

The tropical climate is favorable for all life, including infections, bacteria and viruses. To avoid such problems, any wound that appears, even a small one, must be regularly treated with an antiseptic. There are no epidemic threats in the country.

It is better to take medicines with you. So, if necessary, it will be faster and better to provide assistance to yourself and loved ones.

natural hazards

Nature is unpredictable and dangerous everywhere. However, people often misjudge the situation. They squeal loudly when they see the numbers of a harmless gecko on the ceiling, while they strive to pat the monkeys on the withers, which pose a real threat. What is really to be feared?

hedgehogs

Sea urchins are inhabitants of the bottom of coastal waters. By themselves, they are not dangerous. But if you accidentally step on them, then the problems will be real.

The first thing a person feels is severe pain and burning. After the injection site turns red and swells. This is because the needle contains a toxin. Due to the meager dosage, it will not kill a person, but in some, especially sensitive people, it can cause anaphylactic shock.

The needle itself acts like a splinter - it causes purulent inflammation. Just getting it is much more difficult. The needle is fragile, and crumbles at the slightest impact, causing severe pain.

snakes

It is difficult to imagine Asia without snakes. In Thailand, they pose a real threat, because of the nearly 170 species living here, a third are poisonous.

Unlike other representatives of the animal world, snakes can be found anywhere, but not often. There are very few poisonous species in resort areas. But don't tempt fate. In order not to run into a problem, you just need to follow the safety measures:

  • In areas with dense vegetation, it is better to wear closed shoes and clothing.
  • Snakes don't attack, they defend. No need to annoy them.
  • If the snake has crawled into the house, you do not need to try to expel it. It's better to open the door and let him leave on his own.
  • If the snake is still bitten, immediately consult a doctor.

Jellyfish

It is extremely rare to hear that someone in Thailand suffered from a jellyfish. Of course, swimming in the open ocean, there is always a chance to meet its inhabitants. For example, in 2016, deadly Phizalia jellyfish were found on Patong Beach. Their bite threatens with loss of consciousness, cardiac arrest and even death from pain shock. But this case was unique for this region.

mosquitoes

Outwardly, mosquitoes are no different from those familiar to us. However, Thai mosquitoes sometimes carry dangerous diseases such as malaria and dengue fever. But not everything is so scary. Mosquitoes are rare in tourist areas. You just don't have to go into the jungle.

centipede

To look at the centipede, you will have to try very hard, because they live in high humidity and only in complete darkness. The probability of stumbling on the beach or in the hotel is zero. But still it is worth knowing that the touch of a centipede leaves a burn, and a bite causes a fever, sometimes accompanied by a fever.

Monkey

Wild monkeys are not as cute as we would like. They are aggressive and often attack for no reason, especially if they see food or a bright object in their hands. These animals are carriers of fleas and rabies. The consequences of the latter are lethal. Scratches caused by primates need to be urgently treated, and then go to the hospital.

If you still decide to get to know the primates better, then you should know:

  • Do not take valuables with you - monkeys steal even from bags;
  • Do not wear bright jewelry - they can rip off injuring;
  • Do not put animals on your shoulders, they sometimes bite;
  • Do not smile at a meeting too widely, they take it for a grin - a manifestation of aggression.

currents

The sea in Thailand is calm but dangerous. Undercurrents appear unexpectedly. With total visible calm on the surface, the underwater flow can be of incredible strength. This phenomenon is especially dangerous for children. It doesn't happen often. Mostly during the rainy season.

Attention! If you still get into the stream, you only need to row across the movement of the water and do not panic. The strength of the current usually dries up quickly.

burns

Strange as it may seem, the main danger in Thailand is the sun. It is so active that you can get burned even while constantly in the water or in cloudy weather. Some tourists do not know about it, others want to get a beautiful tan at any cost. As a result, you can not only ruin your vacation by bringing down the temperature and running around pharmacies for ointments, but also greatly undermine your health in general.

When going to Thailand you need to know:

  • You need to buy creams with the highest SPF and use them constantly on all parts of the body.
  • Hair also needs protection. Pharmacies also sell protection for them. Also, hair should be regularly moisturized and nourished with special products.
  • The eyes are our most important sense organ. Don't skimp on glasses. A copy from the Thai market, no matter how fashionable it is, will not protect the eye.
  • Not . According to insurance statistics in Thailand, 23% of people apply for insurance assistance.

To avoid trouble, you need to carry copies of documents and cash only for the current day. The originals, and bank cards, should be kept in the safe of the room. Jewelry is better not to take on vacation at all.

drugs

In Thailand, the punishment for drugs is the most severe. Some articles even provide for the death penalty. Of course, it is most often replaced by a prison term, but given the conditions in Thai prisons, it is not known which is better. Despite this, they are sold everywhere, especially in tourist areas. Sellers themselves come up on the street and offer to “break away”. No need to think that a tourist will be treated softer than a local resident. In this country, there will be no difference in sentencing.

Important! From everything that is illegal in Thailand, it is better for a tourist to stay away. If misunderstandings have arisen, then try to resolve peacefully and do without the police. Here they always recognize the right of the local. And this is despite the fact that the tourism business is the main source of income for the country.

road traffic

Another important danger in Thailand is traffic. In addition to local drivers who do not comply with the speed limit at all, there are tourists. They do not navigate in an unfamiliar city and often do not have experience in driving on the left. The result is total chaos on the roads.

Pedestrian crossings are usually ignored by drivers. We have to wait for a crowd of people at the crossing and go in a large stream. This is the only way to slow down the car.

At especially busy crossings, for security purposes, police officers are on duty, regulating traffic.

Every year, millions of tourists come to the coast of the Gulf of Thailand. All of them leave the country only with positive emotions, and unpleasant incidents with the guests of the country are extremely rare. But it is still worth knowing about the presence of dangers. At least to prevent them.

Thailand is one of the safest countries in Southeast Asia. The government strictly monitors the safety of tourists in Thailand, whose money is the main source of budget revenue. The most common hazards in Thailand are urban petty crime and natural hazards.

Crime in Thailand

Even in the "land of smiles" you can meet a couple of really bad guys. In the major cities of Thailand, there is a rather high level of street crime. Of course, you should not seriously fear for health and safety during a trip to Thailand, but especially careless tourists have a chance to run into street scammers or even become a victim of a robbery.

Do not use or participate in the purchase of drugs in Thailand. For such offenses, the death penalty is provided here, and tourists who ignore Thai law can pay dearly for this. It is also not recommended to take alcoholic drinks from casual acquaintances - in Thailand, cases of robbery using potent drugs mixed with alcohol have recently become more frequent.

Inappropriate behavior in Thailand

The locals are very careful about the monarch and the Buddhist faith. Insult or disparagement of both of them in Thailand is considered a crime and can lead to serious consequences.

One of the legislative innovations in Thailand has been a sharp increase in punishment for inappropriate behavior on board an aircraft. Those tourists who want to break the ban and smoke in the toilet, make a drunken brawl or use an electronic device after takeoff will have to part with a tidy sum from 40 to 200 thousand baht.

Natural Hazards in Thailand

Tourists spending their holidays in Thailand should avoid swimming in stormy sea especially during the rainy season. In the sea, near most of the mass beaches, local authorities put up multi-colored flags (red - green), showing which places you can swim without fear. Vacationers near coral reefs should not forget about the possibility of injuring themselves on their sharp edges.

The underwater world of Thailand, beckoning with bright colors and richness of life, can also pose a serious danger to vacationers. Here you can easily meet poisonous fish, shellfish, jellyfish. In the water, the tourist must strictly observe the main commandment of the diver: Don't touch anything!

Those who doubt the dangers lurking in the soft Thai waters should be reminded of the ubiquitous snail from the “cone” family found here. This completely harmless-looking mollusk, when trying to touch its attractive shell, can sting the mouth with its sharp proboscis. The strongest neurotoxin contained in it, without the prompt administration of an antidote vaccine, can kill a person in just 30 minutes. Especially dangerous are such representatives of cone snails as Conus geographus and Conus textile.

At some resorts in Thailand, you can encounter the aggressive behavior of wild monkeys, which can attack any person in whose hands there is a bright object, fruit or other food. Of particular danger are the older males in the pack (they are easy to distinguish by size and behavior), which is not recommended to anger in any case.

Diseases in Thailand

There are no direct epidemiological threats in the country. But you should not forget that you are in the tropics, where, due to constant heat and humidity, any infectious or viral diseases easily develop, and cuts may not heal for a long time.

Vaccinations

  • Yellow fever
  • diphtheria, tetanus
  • Typhoid fever

If you plan to cross the border and visit neighboring Thailand
countries, vaccinations against Japanese encephalitis and malaria will also be extremely timely.

Fraud of tourists in Thailand

One of the common dangers in Thailand is fraud when making purchases and paying for services. Many stores in Thailand offer a favorable discount when buying several identical products, which is “accidentally” forgotten at the time of payment and an inattentive buyer pays full price.

A guest of Thailand may encounter another type of deception in cafes or restaurants in the country - unscrupulous establishments often indicate very attractive prices for small portions on the menu, and at the end of dinner, the total weight of the dishes eaten is recalculated into very large amounts. Sometimes the final score is inflated with frank additions, in the hope that the visitor will not check it. There is a high probability of being scammed when buying jewelry made of silver, pearls and precious stones - too low prices for these goods may signal a fake.

Another common type of fraud in Thailand occurs when trying to return rented equipment (cars, scooters or jet skis). “Enterprising” Thais can include in the final rental invoice the cost of minor damage (scratches, dents) that have already been on the equipment before and insist in a tough form on payment of imaginary damage. Photos of rented equipment taken before renting it can save you from this.

Some tuk-tuk drivers may assure tourists that the temple they are going to is closed today and they should choose another (suggested by him) place to visit. All temples in Thailand are open daily, so this common attempt to impose services should be answered with a decisive refusal.

Food poisoning in Thailand

In the tropical climate of Thailand, food spoils unusually quickly. While in the country, you should drink only bottled water and avoid sour-milk and other perishable foods. Ice should also be added with caution to drinks, which can be made from local tap water.

When ordering hot fish and meat dishes, in order to avoid poisoning, make sure that they were really freshly cooked and not heated in the microwave. At the slightest suspicion that the dish is not cooked now, demand its replacement or a refund.

The dangers of Thailand for tourists lie in many aspects - crime, disease, attack by animals and mammals, natural disasters, etc.
