GlenAllachie 13 Year Old Madeira Wood Finish comes from Batch 3 of the distillery's Wood Finish Range, master distiller Billy Walker's playground for unusual casks. Walker, the industry veteran who revived BenRiach and GlenDronach, bought GlenAllachie, built near Aberlour in 1967, from Chivas Brothers in 2017 and has made wood innovation the distillery's signature.This golden malt spent more than eleven years in American oak barrels before a finishing period in Madeira barriques that previously held wine made from Malvasia grapes, the sweetest of Madeira's noble varieties. Bottled at 96 proof, non-chill-filtered and naturally colored, in a 700mL bottle, it balances sweet and spice: honey, dried apricot and toffee on the nose, then a rich palate of raisin, orange marmalade, ginger and gentle oak, finishing long and warming.
